Stupid 1.18!!

I've had my r4 since 2008 and its been working fine until last year. I can download newer games(like starting from #3400 to now) but I can't play them when I open my r4 and select it on my Ds. I've been trying to find a way for it to work. Like downloading 1.24, another 1.18 but it doesn't work. Any help?
My r4 is chinese when I got it so I heard that it doesn't work with english softwares or firmwares(_DS_MENU.DAT, etc.)

if it actually is real r4 then you can ONLY use 1.18, and if it is a real chinese cart, then you can only use the cinese firmware. which means that you can only use chinese 1.18, therefore, try d/l the chines firmware and use that. also many newer games may not work.
